Gammon Construction has completed the Two Queensway Bridge project, a 96-m-long pedestrian bridge that connects Pacific Place to Harcourt Garden in Admiralty, Hong Kong. Officially opened on 11 May 2025, this new footbridge enhances pedestrian flow by extending the reach of the existing footbridge system further from the Admiralty MTR station, a vital interchange for four train lines in one of the city’s busiest central business areas.

Commissioned by Swire Properties, the footbridge construction over Queensway – a major thoroughfare featuring six vehicle lanes and two tram rail lines – posed significant challenges. The project highlighted Gammon’s innovative use of design for manufacture and assembly (DfMA), an advanced construction method that addressed spatial limitations of the site area, improved efficiency, enhanced safety and minimised disruption to traffic in this bustling urban environment. Specifically, the two carefully planned midnight launches of the footbridge, executed over weekends, resulted in only nine hours of partial road closure.

In addition, the Harcourt Garden site presented distinct challenges below ground due to its proximity to Hong Kong’s busy train network. To safeguard structural resilience and maintain uninterrupted public transport operations, advanced sensors were deployed to monitor vibrations caused by piling activities, providing real-time data to ensure reduced impact and transparency.
