Aurecon has appointed Frank Nelisi as digital practice leader for Greater China. Based in Hong Kong, he will report directly to Alton Chow, managing director for Greater China.

\n\n

Under its 14th Five-Year Plan (2021 – 2025), China has made digital competitiveness a national priority and it is anticipated that the pace of digitalisation is set to accelerate across all sectors. As Aurecon continues to invest in digital transformation and innovation, this appointment will enable the company to better provide its clients in Greater China with innovative solutions and the digital expertise they require to negotiate a rapidly evolving market.

\n\n

In his new role, Mr Nelisi will advance Aurecon’s digital engineering capabilities, as well as spearhead strategic initiatives to transform digital delivery in Greater China. He will help Aurecon’s clients to bridge the digital and physical worlds by blending the company’s cutting-edge digital offering with subject matter expertise to improve whole-of-life performance on projects.

\n\n

In addition, Aurecon has appointed Krit Chandrema as senior digital manager to lead computational design. Monika Lau, lead information manager will take on the responsibility of driving digital management in the region, while Ray Cheng, building information modelling (BIM) manager will head digital modelling.

\n\n

As a digital expert with almost 20 years of practical design and construction experience in Asia Pacific, Mr Nelisi can leverage his sound understanding of global best practices, design principles and standards to deliver tailored and value-added services for clients in Greater China. Notably, he also possesses extensive experience using multiple software for developing BIM, with the support from software suppliers.

\n\n

Prior to joining Aurecon, Mr Nelisi was BIM manager at Atkins China Limited (Hong Kong). He was responsible for BIM project set-ups and led BIM management that spanned multiple disciplines including civil, utilities, structural, architectural, MEP and geotechnical.

\n\n

Meanwhile, Mr Chandrema brings to Aurecon over 15 years of in-depth digital experience, ranging from BIM to parametric modelling, information quality control and more. He will support the development and implementation of digital initiatives; promote best practices especially in computational design; and also collaborate with digital experts across the Aurecon network to enhance digital delivery and deepen technical expertise in Greater China.

\n\n

“The future of our business will be greatly influenced by digital capabilities. We have many talented digital experts already in Aurecon, and I am keen to contribute my expertise to help position us and our clients better to seize the opportunities arising from digital disruption,” said Mr Chandrema.

\n\n

Mr Chandrema joins Aurecon from Ronald Lu & Partners (Hong Kong) Limited where he was senior BIM manager and corporate BIM manager, coordinating the company’s corporate BIM management, training and adoption of standards and guidelines.

\n\n

The other team members, Ms Lau and Mr Cheng have been with Aurecon since 2019 and 2012 respectively. Ms Lau has over 10 years of experience in the design and construction industry, specialising in BIM implementation, digital strategy and information management. Before joining Aurecon, she had worked at New World Construction Co Ltd and WSP Hong Kong Ltd.

Mr Cheng has more than 14 years of experience within the civil and structural engineering sector on delivering planning, detailed design, tender and construction stages work, as well as over 10 years of deep dive in BIM.

Aurecon has appointed Tang Jianyong as its new commercial director for Shanghai. He will report directly to Alton Chow, managing director of Greater China.

\n\n

This strategic appointment is part of the company’s ongoing investment and expansion across Asia. With demand for infrastructure investments set to continue soaring in Asia over the next decade, the region remains a key strategic priority and growth market for Aurecon.

\n\n

Earlier this year, China expedited the rollout of 102 major infrastructure projects as outlined in its 14th Five-Year Plan (2021 – 2025). Being the world’s largest construction market which is forecast to grow by 5.2% in 2022 and at an annual average of 8.6% between 2022 and 2030, China presents exciting opportunities. As clients pay greater attention to sustainability issues amidst a national move towards a greener economy, Aurecon is well positioned to extend its environment and climate change expertise into the Chinese market.

\n\n

“The appointment of Jianyong is part of a concerted effort to bring our local and international expertise to our clients in mainland China. He will help us to raise the bar with quality and innovative solutions, differentiating Aurecon in a highly competitive market,” said Mr Chow. “By drawing on his wealth of experience and deep knowledge of mainland China, we can deliver greater value to our clients, expand into new markets and further grow our business in the country.”

Mr Tang has over 20 years of experience in master planning, architecture and landscape design. His background in building successful businesses throughout his career will be pivotal in accelerating Aurecon’s growth in mainland China.

\n\n

In his role, Mr Tang will be responsible for creating a sustainable growth pipeline of opportunities for Aurecon in Shanghai. Given his extensive network and intimate understanding of the Chinese market, Mr Tang will enable Aurecon to sharpen its business offering and seize growth opportunities across the public and private sectors.

\n\n

Prior to joining Aurecon, Mr Tang led the operations and management of Capol International & Associates Group’s Shanghai office as its vice general manager. During his three-year tenure there, he nurtured strong client relationships which delivered steady business growth in a competitive market.

\n\n

Earlier in his career, Mr Tang held several leadership roles at AECOM where he grew its mainland China business with record wins and through securing major clients. These include Spire London, Greenland Kunming South Eastern Center, Greenland Nanchang Twin Towers and the West Island Resort.

Aurecon has appointed Alton Chow as its new managing director of Greater China, effective 3 January 2021. Based in Hong Kong, he will report directly to Stephane Asselin, chief executive for Asia.

\n\n

This significant move is part of Aurecon’s strategy to further strengthen its position in the infrastructure and engineering sector in Greater China. Recent years have seen the company bolster its leadership team and grow its presence steadily in the region. The team has been working on major projects such as the recent MTR Hung Shui Kiu Station, Tuen Ma Line extension, the Hong Kong West Kowloon Terminus, The Mills Hong Kong and Tseung Kwan O – Lam Tin Tunnel, Hong Kong.

\n\n

Approximately HK$100 billion (US$12.8 billion) is expected to be invested annually in Hong Kong’s infrastructure over the next decade, in addition to the HK$120 billion stimulus package announced earlier this year. Infrastructure development is also a key highlight in the chief executive’s Policy Address 2021 where there is a keen focus on smart cities, developing a new Northern Metropolis, establishing transport infrastructure-led developments and building an eco-environment, among other initiatives.

\n\n

With this new appointment, Mr Chow will take the lead to grow Aurecon’s business in Greater China and work with the team to deliver innovative and sustainable solutions to clients.

\n\n

“Alton has a proven track record in building successful practices that penetrate markets and disrupt the industry. He has led both public and private companies, working in a variety of international markets and within both architectural and engineering practices,” explained Mr Asselin.

\n\n

With over 24 years of architecture and engineering experience, Mr Chow has a proven international track record in delivering robust business outcomes and developing a strong talent base focused on client experience and quality delivery. In this new role, he will be responsible to grow Aurecon’s business in the Greater China region by developing a high-performing team and will work closely and collaboratively with the wider Aurecon network.

\n\n

Prior to this appointment, Mr Chow was with AECOM for over seven years. He served as vice president and global head of commercial development as well as Asia head of architecture. In these roles, he expanded the company’s market share in the United States, Middle East and Asia through strategic alignments with key global clients.

\n\n

In addition, Mr Chow developed a network of global talent throughout AECOM to deliver large and complex multidisciplinary projects. Earlier in his career with the company, Mr Chow was the managing director for mainland China where he was responsible for the business’ restructure; he drove record growth during his tenure.

\n\n

Throughout his illustrious career, Mr Chow has held multiple executive management roles with various international practices including Woods Bagot, Gensler, and Wilson Associates. Time and again, he has turned businesses around by streamlining operations, nurturing talent and leading teams to deliver quality work. He established stable and profitable enterprises as well as increased brand awareness both locally and internationally.

Aurecon has appointed Anita Ho as its new director for major projects in Greater China, with effect from 6 December 2021. She is based in Hong Kong and will report directly to the company’s soon-to-be announced managing director for Greater China.

\n\n

In her new role, Ms Ho will be responsible for the smooth delivery of major projects in terms of quality assurance, risk mitigation, management and review. She will also develop and implement Aurecon’s strategy to increase cooperation with government agencies, as the company seeks to cement its reputation as a Tier 1 provider for engineering and advisory services in Asia.

\n\n

To aid its comeback from the Covid-19 pandemic as well as boost its economy, the Hong Kong government announced a stimulus package earlier this year of HK$120 billion (US$15.4 billion), explained Aurecon. A large portion of the investment will be channelled to four main infrastructure projects aimed at enhancing mobility and integrating the city more closely with others along the Pearl River Delta. Further investment is expected in the future too, as over the next decade or so, Hong Kong’s annual capital works expenditure is estimated to be HK$100 billion per year.

\n\n

With its strategic location making the city a gateway for trade and investment between mainland China and ASEAN countries, and Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) economies accounting for 73% of its merchandise trade last year, the importance – and potential payback – of these infrastructure schemes cannot be underestimated. As such, Aurecon is taking a proactive approach to further bolster its leadership team as the company looks to strengthen its position further in Asia.

\n\n

“One of the key attributes we are looking for in this role was a comprehensive understanding of the Greater China market, and Anita brings extensive experience with her to Aurecon,” said Stephane Asselin, Aurecon’s chief executive for Asia. “Over the past 25 years, she has worked on a diverse portfolio of engineering projects in Greater China and in Asia, from planning and feasibility studies through to design and construction. She has excellent talent for harnessing strong analytical and problem-solving skills to successfully manage large and complex infrastructure projects, including multidisciplinary engineering designs for government projects.”

\n\n

A member of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (East Asia Branch), Ms Ho has 25 years of extensive experience in all aspects of project management. This includes 20 years of working in the design and construction management of infrastructure projects.

\n\n

“I am excited to start in my new role at such an innovative organisation, one that is growing so rapidly in Asia and working on some of the largest infrastructure projects in the region,” said Ms Ho. “I share Aurecon’s strong desire to leave a lasting legacy, and I hope to make good use of the experience I’ve gained over the years to work with key clients in the public sector to solve their complex challenges.”

Ms Ho joins Aurecon from her role as chief project manager (design) at Hong Kong’s West Kowloon Cultural District Authority, where she led a team of design consultants and project managers engaged in the creation of one of the world’s largest cultural quarters.

\n\n

Prior to this, Ms Ho spent just under four years as technical director at AECOM, where she managed a number of transport-related projects. These included the Kuala Lumpur–Singapore High-Speed Rail RDC06 package and the Klang Valley Mass Rapid Transit schemes in Malaysia, as well as the Third Runway Concourse Design at the Hong Kong International Airport. She also worked on the Hong Kong – Guangzhou Express Rail Link project during her earlier time with the organisation as principal engineer.

\n\n

Previously in her career where she spent her time with several well-reputed international project management and engineering organisations, Ms Ho managed numerous large-scale projects in Asia. Key projects that she was involved with included being the contract administrator for the Cathay Pacific New Cargo Terminal Project, Hong Kong; the project manager for DHL Central Asia Hub Expansion Project at the Hong Kong International Airport; and the project manager for the Astra Sunter Jakarta Masterplan, Indonesia.

\n\n

During her time with Hong Kong’s Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation, Ms Ho was also the planning engineer for the Shatin to Central Link Project and Northern Link Project. Her first post-graduate position was a graduate engineer at Hyder Consulting Limited, where she was engaged in various utility assessments, engineering studies and design projects.
