The new Sennebogen 6133 telescopic crawler crane has a maximum capacity of up to 130 t and boom lengths from 12 m to 52 m. It is fitted with two 125-kN winches and a Maxcab comfort cab that can be tilted 20 degree. The crane’s vertical reach can be extended to almost 70 m with an optional 15 m fly boom.

\n\n

With the telescopic crawler undercarriage, it can be retracted to a total machine width of less than 4 m for transport and travel. When extended, the crane delivers excellent stability and good manoeuvrability thanks to its 6.30 m track width.

\n\n

Featuring a self-assembly system, the 6133 E can be assembled and disassembled in just a few steps, within a short time and without the need for an auxiliary crane, said Sennebogen. The 6133 E is not only easy to manoeuvre on the jobsite, it is also easy to load. Once the travelling gears and the ballast have been dismantled, the transport width is only 3 m.

\n\n

Sennebogen has upgraded its 5500 crawler crane as well, now having a maximum capacity of up to 200 t. Thanks to its robust Star Lifter crawler undercarriage, the machine is not only stable, but can also be conveniently driven under load. Depending on the boom configuration, the working load values can be increased by between 15% and 50%, as a result of the newly developed and strengthened boom construction and the increased ballast.

\n\n

A modular boom design allows numerous equipment variants with lengths of up to 104 m, including luffing jib. The crawler tracks can be easily removed for transport, after which the base machine, at just 3 m wide, can be easily transported. All further components are designed so that they can be stowed in containers or tarpaulin-covered trucks in a space-saving way. With its self-assembly system, the Sennebogen 5500 can be set up quickly.

\n\n

In addition, the Sennebogen 355 E telehandler is designed for challenging and constant use. A notable feature is the Z kinematics of the boom head, similar to that of wheel loaders. This greatly increases the breakaway torque as part of bucket operation. The machine is purposely geared towards a multi-functional machine in terms of wheel-loader operations and is more than just a traditional telehandler.

\n\n

For operator comfort, the 355 E telehandler provides an air conditioned, temperature- controlled cab. The standard reversible ventilators ensure the engine stays clean and ready-to-use, and guarantees reliability even in unfavourable environmental conditions.

\n\n

Sennebogen is also offering its 870 E demolition material handler with either the original 33-m-long attachment or the longer 36-m version with a maximum capacity of 4 t.

\n\n

The new, longer attachment consists of a 19.5 m basic boom with a quick-change facility and a 2.5 m intermediate boom, along with the 12.5 m stick with reversing mechanism. This gives the equipment an overall vertical reach of 36 m and a boom range of 20 m. The demolition machine can handle loads of up to 4 t with ease across the entire working range.

\n\n

Thanks to its telescoping crawler undercarriage, the 4.2 m and 2.6 m tracks can be adjusted. The attachment and the rear ballast can be removed in order to transport the 155-t machine, thus reducing the transport weight to 66 t.

Unite Co Ltd was recently tasked to undertake a rehabilitation work on a section of the Jōban Expressway in Mito, about 140 km northeast of Tokyo in Japan. It covered an area of approximately 800 sq m, featuring 250 m in length and 3.425 m in width.

\n\n

To help complete the job, the company chose a 2 m front-loading W 210 cold milling machine from Wirtgen. While traffic continued to flow on one lane, the 500-kW machine kept operating to remove the damaged sections.

\n\n

“Our machine is equipped with the vacuum cutting system (VCS),” said Koji Yamada, the site manager on the project. Five years ago, the VCS system developed by Wirtgen was included in the New Technology Information System (NETIS) of the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Traffic and Tourism.

\n\n

To repair cracks in the road pavement, the W 210 was equipped with a standard milling drum. After removal of the 10-cm-thick surface course, the machine milled the binder course to a depth of 15 cm in a second pass. Because the different types of mix were separated, it was possible to return both layers to the material cycle for reuse in line with their technical suitability and qualitative characteristics.

\n\n

The selective reclaiming of the material clearly delivers ecological and economic benefits. Wirtgen added that when intelligent milling technology is factored in, its cold milling machines not only optimise the overall rehabilitation process, but also the cost-effective reuse of the RAP in the asphalt mixing plant.

\n\n

Load-dependent water sprinkling plays a key role here. The water required for cooling the cutting tools is regulated in accordance with the engine load and milling speed. As the water system is automatically switched on when the milling drum is lowered into working position and automatically switched off when the milling work is stopped, water consumption can be cut considerably. In particular, up to 20% of the water can be saved, claimed Wirtgen.

\n\n

As a result, the service life of the cutting tools is extended, the cold milling machine requires less frequent refills and the downtimes are shorter. In addition – and this is said to be decisive for materials processing – the residual moisture of the milled material is only 3–4% per tonne. According to Wirtgen, if its milling technology is not employed, the residual moisture is generally 5%.

\n\n

The company further explained that when producing new asphalt, a simple equation applies to the drying process in the asphalt mixing plant: 1% drier source material saves 1 l of heating oil in the production of 1 t of asphalt. On top of this comes a reduction in CO2 emissions due to the lower energy requirements. With that in mind, when processing the milled material on the Jōban Expressway, a total of some 400 l of heating oil were saved – and in just two hours, as this was how fast Unite Co Ltd selectively and precisely removed the surface and binder courses with the W 210.

Mr Yamada commented, “The quality of the milled surface is flawless thanks to the Level Pro levelling system – it’s the perfect base for paving and compacting the new asphalt.”

Korean contractor Daelim, which was awarded the CC2 contract of Temburong Bridge project in Brunei, recently announced that it has installed the last girder at the Marine bridge section.

\n\n

Temburong Bridge, being commissioned by the government of Brunei, is believed to be the largest project in the country’s history which aims to connect the Muara and Temburong regions. A total of 578 girders have reportedly been installed since January 2017. According to Daelim, the project site applied the ‘left-right balanced installation method’ whereby two girders are simultaneously installed for the first time in the world.

In February 2015, Daelim secured the contract for section 2 (CC2) of Temburong Bridge. The company said it would build a sea bridge spanning 13.65 km as the longest section, with a construction duration of 45 months.

\n\n

In September 2015, Daelim won the section 3 (CC3) contract. It involves building a cable-stayed bridge with one main tower and another cable-stayed bridge with two main towers. One of the main towers has been designed as 107 m high, while the other two feature 110.5 m high.

The new W 195 features a 2-m front loader for efficient milling operations. Equipped with a 410 kW diesel engine, the machine delivers enormous engine power while still consuming less fuel per cubic meter of milled asphalt. It is suitable for all milling operations typical of the 2-m-class.

\r\n

The Level Pro Plus, the new levelling system developed by Wirtgen, has been completely integrated into the machine’s control system. It ensures a precise, high-quality milled result thanks to its simple intuitive handling. The preset target milling depth is accurately controlled via robust displacement sensors located in the hydraulic cylinders - which are mounted on the side plates - and is shown on the high-resolution Level Pro Plus colour display. The Level Pro Plus enables a wide range of sensors to be used as standard equipment. Mechanical surface scanning, cross slope sensor, ultrasonic sensors or the Multiplex system ensure high precision levelling for a wide variety of different milling applications.

The W 195 can achieve high daily production thanks to a simple and reliable operating concept. For example, the robust, easy-to-handle controls are arranged in a clear pattern and in line with application requirements. The weatherproof control screen provides clear information on all relevant data and operational parameters.

The other model, the W 205, is designed with high milling performance and professional supplementary equipment. The machine is equipped with a 455 kW diesel engine and caters to a wide range of applications, from surface course rehabilitation all the way to full pavement removal.

The Flexible Cutter System Light (FCS Light) allows the use of different milling drums to increase flexibility and machine utilisation. With this system, milling drums with various tool spacings can be replaced in a short space of time, making it possible to perform a wide range of milling operations with one machine. As a result, the W 205 is extremely versatile to use, covering everything from standard applications through fine milling for the creation of new, level road surfaces (ideally with the multiplex levelling system) to the use of Eco cutters for a particularly high area performance at low cost.

Furthermore, the new Delta 18 milling drum technology and three adjustable milling drum speeds ensure high performance at low operating costs. With Delta 18, the W 205 can achieve an even higher milling output due to the optimised arrangement of the cutting tools in the outer ring and the conveying and ejecting areas of the milling drum, while simultaneously reducing the cutting tool wear. The three selectable milling drum speeds lead to an optimum milling performance across a wide range of applications, with milling widths of 2,000 mm and milling depths up to 330 mm. High traction of Wirtgen’s large milling machine is ensured by the robust track units fitted with large track pads.

The W 215 is the top performer among the cold milling machines, featuring a maximum milling performance and high productivity in a broad scope of applications. In this large milling machine, customers can call on an extra 25 percent of milling output, said Wirtgen. Equipped with a 470 kW diesel engine, the Wirtgen front loader delivers enormous engine power yet still consumes 15 percent less fuel per cubic meter of milled asphalt.

Surbana Jurong has acquired Australian engineering company SMEC Holdings, establishing a global consultancy group with deep combined expertise in urban and infrastructure sectors. Singapore-based Surbana Jurong has acquired Australian engineering company SMEC Holdings for approximately S$400 million, establishing a global consultancy group with deep combined expertise in urban and infrastructure sectors.

\r\n

The joint entity will have a combined revenue of S$1.1 billion, with a global workforce of almost 10,000 employees in over 95 offices across 40 countries in Asia, Australia, the Middle East, Africa and the Americas. It is set to be one of the largest urban and infrastructure consulting firms in Asia.

\r\n

SMEC specialises in major infrastructure projects. It was formed in 1949 to undertake a major integrated water and hydroelectric power project in New South Wales, Australia, called Snowy Mountain Hydroelectric Scheme, one of the largest and most complex hydroelectric schemes in the world. The project was considered an engineering feat and recognised by the American Society of Civil Engineers as one of the seven civil engineering wonders of the modern world. It took 25 years to complete and included 16 major dams, seven power stations and one pumping station, over 225 km of tunnels and aqueducts and 2,000 km of roads.

Singapore and Australia have successfully done many major showcase national development projects through Surbana Jurong and SMEC.
