Registration opens worldwide for Caterpillar’s Building the Future Workforce Challenge

As advanced technologies continue to transform how work gets done, Caterpillar is reinforcing its commitment to the workforce behind that transformation. To support this effort, the company has launched the ‘Building the Future Workforce Challenge’ – a global competition seeking innovative ideas to attract, retain and upskill advanced manufacturing and technician talent.

The initiative was first discussed on stage at CES 2026 by Caterpillar chairman and CEO Joe Creed during his keynote. It is part of the company’s five-year, US$100 million pledge announced last year.

“The future of work is here, and it’s up to all of us – industry, educators and innovators – to ensure people are ready to succeed in it,” said Christy Pambianchi, chief human resources officer at Caterpillar. “This challenge is about unlocking new ideas that help individuals build durable, future‑ready skills while strengthening our communities.”

Operated by CARROT, the challenge welcomes bold proposals from non-profit and for‑profit organisations worldwide that can be piloted and tested in select communities. According to Caterpillar, it will award up to five teams US$1 million each to implement their solutions over a maximum two-year project period.

The winning solutions will have the opportunity to be implemented in Caterpillar facilities and Caterpillar communities, providing a testing ground for introduction, replication and scale. The company said applicants can identify their preferred locations on the registration and application forms.

The registration deadline is 5:00 pm (US Eastern Time) on 30 July 2026. Caterpillar will announce the finalists in early 2027. Visit the competition website to learn more and apply.
