Hong Kong – The launch of the HKGBC Guidebook for Sustainable Built Environment took place at the CIC-Zero Carbon Park on 4 December 2023, with over 100 distinguished guests attending the launching ceremony. We were especially honoured to have the presence of Ms Clarice YU, JP, Director of Buildings, the Government of the HKSAR, who graciously supported the event.
Dr CHEUNG Tin-cheung, SBS, Chairman of the HKGBC, delivered his Opening Remarks, highlighting the Guidebook’s role as an inspiration for professionals to develop practical solutions and establish sustainable precincts.
Mr CHEUNG Hau-wai, SBS, the Council’s Immediate Past Chairman and Chairman of the Guidebook for Sustainable Built Environment Steering Committee, expressed his belief that the Guidebook will provide valuable recommendations to facilitate the creation of sustainable built environments, aligning with Hong Kong’s ambitious goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
The HKGBC Guidebook for Sustainable Built Environment, funded by Construction Industry Council, offers comprehensive guidance with 8 Key Themes and 48 Strategies for sustainable development. It supports the Government’s sustainability initiatives and provides building practitioners with strategic guidance by referencing policy and technical documents. The Guidebook also develops frameworks and design strategies that enhance sustainable practices within the built environment.
The launching ceremony featured two panel discussions that fostered insightful conversations among industry experts under the topics of "Climate Resilient and Carbon Neutral Precincts" and "Accessible and Inclusive Precincts" respectively.
The ceremony concluded with Closing Remarks delivered by Ir PAN Shu-jie, Chairman of the Sustainable Development Committee of the HKGBC. He emphasised the importance of ongoing updates and contributions from the industry to effectively adapt to evolving needs and environmental conditions. He also expressed the HKGBC’s heartfelt gratitude to the various stakeholders involved.
This launching ceremony was a significant event that brought together industry professionals, government representatives, and stakeholders to promote sustainable practices in Hong Kong’s built environment.
