IALD Welcomes New Professional Members

CHICAGO, IL USA, 26 MARCH 2020 | The IALD is pleased to welcome the following Professional-level members to the IALD. 
 
IALD Professional membership is available to architectural lighting designers who have at least five years of experience in the field in the role of senior designer or above in an independent consulting practice. IALD members worldwide must meet the highest educational and ethical standards in order to belong to this prestigious community, and are accepted as Professional members on the strength of their portfolios and recommendations.

SOPHIE CHARVEIN, IALD

 Sophie Charvein, IALD, is a partner at UDO Design in Montreal, Canada. Prior to joining the firm in 2018, she worked as a senior lighting designer and project manager for lighting design firm Lightemotion. With more than 20-years of experience in architectural lighting design and theater lighting combined, her background in production design has been helpful in developing artistic lighting experiences that are fun and interactive. She has worked on many high-profile projects, from interior and exterior architectural lighting, to landscape and museum lighting. Sophie holds a degree in production design from the National Theater School of Canada and a business certification in Project Management from HEC Montréal. Following her graduation from theater school, she toured with a contemporary dance company for several years.

Carlo D’Alesio, IALD, founding partner of D'Alesio&Santoro SRL, is a believer of light as a supreme entity and throughout his professional career he has strived to leverage its immense potential. After receiving his master’s degree in Lighting Design and Technologies from Politecnico di Milano, Carlo worked for Metis Lighting for several years before founding the independent lighting design firm in Milan, Italy in 2011. Carlo’s achievements in lighting design consist of numerous projects worldwide, ranging from museum, residential, retail and urban landscape projects, to immersive installations and product designs. The firm often participates in international competitions and has received awards from ADI Design Index Awards, Internet of Things (IoT) Awards and LG OLED Design Competition in South Korea. Committed to giving back to the profession, Carlo dedicates time to teaching and mentoring new generations of lighting professionals.

Grace Eng, IALD, associate director at Contrast Ratio based in Singapore, has been in the lighting design field since she graduated from university in 2005. As an experienced and trusted lighting designer and project manager for time sensitive projects from concept to handover she has coordinated numerous complex projects. In the course of her work, she has visited many project sites throughout the Asia Pacific region including Eastern Europe and China. Her international expertise has led her to work on a variety of project applications, specifically in the hospitality, commercial and residential sectors. Among the renowned brands Grace has had the pleasure to design for are Intercontinental, Hilton, Raffles, Shangri-La, Marriott, and Hyatt Hotels. 
 
JAN FORSMARK, IALD

 Jan Forsmark, IALD, may live in a small town on the coast of northern Sweden, but with a career spanning over 25 years in lighting, he is well-known throughout the country for his work as a lighting designer. As an electrical engineer turned lighting designer, he has worked on a wide range of interior and exterior projects. In 2012, Jan established his award-winning firm Designat Ljus, specializing in lighting design, planning and custom luminaire design. Recognized for his work, he was the recipient of a Swedish Lighting Award for the lighting of the Svedje bridge spanning over the Luleå River in the municipality of Boden and received a Community Building Prize.
